Young Kids Accused Of Robbing Jackson Hair Salon

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MI (WLNS) - It's the security camera video that shocked the Jackson community.

Four school-aged kids walked into a beauty salon, stole money from the register and got away.

6 News Mariah Harrison was in Jackson Thursday and spoke with people in the city who say something needs to be done.

It was an unusual Monday at Headlines Design Studio. One person was manning the front desk.

Owner Joan McGivern believes that gave four young kids the idea to rob her salon.

“Two went up front, one stayed at the corner, and one went behind the desk and looked to see if anyone was there,” said Joan McGivern, owner, Headlines Design Studio.

It was caught on camera. One opens the drawer and takes out bills. The boy was caught. The woman working calls  police, that's when the kids take off.

In all the kids made-off with $260, but the money is not what bothers McGivern.

The pint-sized thieves looked to be in elementary or middle school. McGivern said their parents should have known what they were up to.

"I would like their parents to be aware that this isn't acceptable behavior in communities.”

"They need to keep better control on them, they need to find out ya know where they are and what they're doing,” said Linda Larry, Robinson teacher.

Linda Larry is a local school teacher and recognizes the kids on the security tape, and says something needs to be done.

"There's no school this summer and if they don't have anything constructive to do they're just going to continue to wreak havoc on the neighborhood.”

A community that would hate to see four kids fall through the cracks. Police will meet with Larry this week to try to identify the kids on tape.
