Why Friday The 13th Is Bad Luck

(WLNS) - Everyone knows Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day. But why does it have such a bad reputation?

One reason could be both Friday and the number 13 have some troubling ties to Christianity.

According to the Bible it was on a Friday that Jesus was crucified.

In the Middle Ages you wouldn't think of having a wedding or starting out on journey on a Friday.

So how did the number 13 get a bad rap?

Seating 13 people at a table was seen as bad luck as Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus, is said to have been the 13th guest at the Last Supper.

More recently, the "Friday the 13th" slasher movies cashed in on the fear factor.

Speaking of fear, the phobia of Friday the 13th is called "paraskevidekatriaphobics".
