Olivet Middle School Football Team Honored By Military

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - This story has made national headlines.

It began when a local football team pulled off the ultimate surprise to honor of one of their team mates.

As Francesca Amiker reports, that team received a very special honor.

It was a brisk afternoon in October when the football team of Olivet Middle School scored the ultimate goal.

Justice Miller, an Olivet football team member, remembered how the idea began. "We were walking with Keith and we were like Keith should get a touchdown because he's put all this work in."

They let one of their own Keith Orr achieve one of his goals by scoring his first touchdown.

Keith Orr remembers the moment, "It felt really energetic".

And that energy was felt all over the nation and soon around the world.

"It was one of the missions the pilot was on and we were, like hey ,can you fly this for us. We want to present it," explained Sr. A. Lisa Dusseljee of the 110th Security Force Squad.

Senior airman Lisa Dusselgee's military base heard about the story while deployed in southwest Asia.

She says it was the players' teamwork that her base appreciated and made them want to present the military's greatest symbol.

"The flag is, I mean, the number one symbol for us. We had a chance to fly it on the jets we got to protect everyday," she added.

And it's that willingness to protect and work together. that Keith wants his teammates to remember as they graduate middle school and enter the "big leagues" of high school.

"I would say that it's not only about getting friends. It's also about having fun,",Orr adds.
