Amber Murphy Sentenced For Death Of Infant Son

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Amber Murphy, who had pleaded no contest after being charged with the death of her infant son, has been sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison.

Her nine-month old son, Seth, died of blunt force trauma in August 2009.  Investigators say he had apparently been hit with a bat.

Last month Murphy pleaded no contest to manslaughter just before she would have gone to trial on open murder charges.

At today's sentencing Jackson County Circuit Judge Thomas Wayne deviated from sentencing guidelines to hand down a longer sentence.

The judge said Murphy had gotten away with murder and striking a crying baby with a bat was unfathomable.

Because the judge deviated from the sentencing guidelines the case will automatically be appealed.
