Northwest Community Schools Taking Meals On Road

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - Keeping school children fed this summer is a concern and in Northwest Community Schools something is being done about the problem.

The summer nutrition program is going on the road.

Meals in the program, which began Monday, June 16, and lasts through Friday, Aug. 15, are being delivered to the Sherman Oaks, Windham Hills, Walnut Hills and English Meadows mobile home communities, as well as Northwest Elementary School and the Northwest Education Center.

Serving times are 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at Windham Hills, 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. at Sherman Oaks, 11:30 to noon at the Northwest Education Center, 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at English Meadows, 11:45 to 12:15 p.m. at Northwest Elementary School and 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. at Walnut Ridge.

"The kids like the lunches, and they eat them," said Peachie Putnam, who also brings her four kids to Windham Hills. "This is nice. It's right up the road for us."

Northwest started its summer meal program in 2010. In its first days this year, about 200 meals per day have been served, up from years past.
