Morning Crash Knocks Out Power In EL

(WLNS) - Traffic is returning to normal and power is being restored after an early-morning crash on West Saginaw Highway in East Lansing.

The accident occurred at 5:08 a.m. and was caused by a vehicle traveling westbound in the 200 block of West Saginaw Highway.

According to officials in East Lansing the car left the roadway while traveling at a high rate of speed and struck two utility poles. It severed one of the utility poles and caused the power outage. The three occupants were transported to Sparrow Hospital. All three occupants were injured, however, one occupant was seriously injured

The crash caused the closure of Saginaw, between Abbot and Harrison roads, for about 4 hours while repairs were being made.

An estimated 200 homes remain without power due to the accident. The Lansing Board of Water & Light estimates that power will be restored by no later than 11 p.m. tonight.
