Posted: Updated:

IONIA, Mich. (AP) - A prosecutor says police were justified in fatally shooting man who led them on a chase through two western Michigan counties and opened fire on officers.

The determination was made by Ionia County Prosecutor Ronald Schafer. Two state police sergeants, a state police trooper and a sheriff's deputy had been placed on leave following the shooting.

Steven Goble was shot last month in Ionia County's Orleans Township, about 25 miles northeast of Grand Rapids. The chase took place in Ionia and Montcalm counties following a domestic violence incident. Authorities say Goble yelled for police so shoot him before firing on officers.
