146 Curfew Violators Held During Fireworks Show

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (AP) - Police detained 146 young people in and around downtown for violating a city-imposed curfew during Detroit's 56th annual Ford Fireworks show.

Reportedly youth 17 years old and younger without their parents or guardians were picked up between 6 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday. Of that number, 91 were boys.

The Detroit Police Department reports on its Facebook page that 80 juveniles had been detained by 10 p.m. Monday, just before the fireworks started.

Parents were issued $50 tickets when they arrived to pick up their children.

The American Civil Liberties Union objected to the curfew, calling the ordinance unconstitutional.

Detroit police reported no major incidents downtown, along the riverfront or at the city's Belle Isle park where thousands of people gathered for the fireworks.
