Thieves Steal Bikes From Special Olympics Athletes

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Police in Jackson are on the search this morning for 15 missing bikes used by Special Olympic athletes to train.

Officers say 8 adult tricycles and seven bikes were taken from a building on the 1700 block of South Jackson Street.

The 7 bikes cost roughly $200 each while the 8 tricycles range from $500 to $800 each.

Mary Turk, the coach of the cycling team, says the group does not have money in the budget to replace the bikes.

She says the athletes were hoping to get some training before their competition in September.

If you know anything you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 517-483-STOP.

If you'd like to donate an adult-sized tricycle or a 5 or 10 speed bike, please contact Mary Turk at 517-795-1051. You can also e-mail Mary, the cycling coach, at mary@pcsjxn.com.
