Flint Councilman Acquitted Of 3 Charges, Convicted On 1

Posted: Updated:

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - Flint City Councilman Eric Mays has been acquitted of three charges and convicted of a lesser charge in a drunken driving and marijuana possession case.

The trial ended Thursday with a jury in Flint finding Mays not guilty of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, marijuana possession and refusing to be fingerprinted after police found him Nov. 30 along Interstate 475.

The jury replaced the operating a vehicle while intoxicated charge with a driving while impaired charge and convicted him on that charge. Jurors deadlocked on a charge of failure to report an accident, which prosecutors say they might still pursue.

Mays faces up to 45 days in jail when sentenced July 18. He says he's thankful for the acquittals and may appeal the guilty verdict.
