TMSG: Poochie Dog Bowl Success

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - A pet-friendly invention made right here in Lansing will soon spread its wings, and its ears, all over the country and world.

And a local online entrepeneurial program helped get it done.

6 News Evan Pinsonnault "hatches" the story in this week's "Tell Me Something Good".

Dudley the basset hound is all ears during his eats. So much so he visited the vet monthly.

"He'd get ear infections everytime he ate or drank, so owner Joe Rabideaux of Eaton Rapids came up with an idea.

"Just change the shape of the bowl."

And voila: The Poochie Bowl was born. Joe spent the last year conceptualizing, developing and finally creating this pet-friendly dish that will soon be on sale globally.

He says, "It's made right in Lansing, Michigan. That was important to have it made locally to support the economy."

"To solve a common problem he faced with his dogs..." Tony Willis of the Lansing Economic Area Partnership helped Joe fill the Poochie Bowl with more than just water and food, but local support. Thanks to a creative new entrepenuer program called "The Hatching".

Willis says, "It's very simple. You go online,  you post an idea,  then you get votes. If you have enough votes you pitch in front of a group and if you win you get $1000 and free formation of your business entity"

Joe formed his in June of last year. And now one year later, with Dudley and family by his side, he's ready to take the Poochie Bowl to market.

Rabideaux  says, "We're gonna create a legacy so it's not just the product but we can also update our ideas. You know I created a lid so it's a travel bowl and then we have wraps to go around it and I'm designing a lid for the bottom so it can chill."

A complete pet nutrition system, he calls it, hatched right here in Lansing. One that he hopes will have both pet owners and pups like Dudley bowled over with excitement and usefulness for years to come.

Glad to get your barking about some good news... I'm Evan Pinsonnault.
