Mid-Michigan Retailers Optimistic For Summer Sales

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - During the winter months sales at Kositcheck's in downtown Lansing became, well, cold.

"The winter was tough. I think it was tough on every industry. But we came out of it beautifully sometime mid-February."

David Kositchek isn't the only business owner who saw sales drop temporarily and he isn't the only one who expects a big boost this summer.

"Our retailers are very optimistic about the rest of the summer," said Tom Scott of the Michigan Retailers Association. "The level of optimism is the highest we've seen going back to November 2004."

That's according to the Michigan Retailers Association's survey of all of its members, in conjuncton with the Federal Reserve.

Senior vice president Tom Scott says just about all members expect to do very well in the upcoming months. "Our guess is that they do see the economy improving. Of course it's still kind of fits and starts."

There is a caveat. Scott says the MRA isn't seeing the kind of month to month economic growth he's like to be seeing by this point. Nonetheless all of the businesses and members of the MRA are excited about the upcoming season.

Scott says that extends to various industries, businesses large and small. "We're very upbeat and optimistic."

This summer Kositcheks will be preparing for its 150th year in Lansing. They certainly think it'll be a summer to remember.
