$1 Million Grant To Boost 'Untold Stories' Project

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan History Foundation is getting $1 million to help improve knowledge about the history of race in Michigan and examine issues of racial equity through museum exhibits, programs and educational materials.

The three-year grant announced this week from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation will be used to support the Michigan Historical Center's "Sharing Michigan's Untold Stories" project. The project is part of its Exhibits for a New Century effort to refresh its displays.

In all, the Michigan History Foundations says it's working to raise $3 million.

The Exhibits for a New Century's goals include increasing the diversity of voices and people represented in exhibits; providing more opportunities for children to explore history; creating online resources for teachers, students and families; and using technology more effectively.
