Consumers Energy Working 24/7 To Restore Power After Summer Storm

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MI (WLNS) - Consumers and DTE say it will be late Thursday before all the power is back on.

But, for some people, it might take even longer.

6 News Mariah Harrison caught up with one of the Consumers Energy line crews in Jackson County as they fixed poles and got rid of hanging wires.

As a home owner this is likely the second crew that you'll see on your street. They say things are looking up for people still living in the dark.

Downed branches, frayed wires and uprooted trees. Consumers Energy restoration crews have their work cut out for them this week.

“We keep an eye on the forecast and we mobilize crews.”

Consumers Energy spokesman Terry Dedoes explains how they stayed on top of those wicked winds that whipped out power for about 70,000 Consumers Energy customers.

The storm, “broke a lot of cross arms on our poles and broke a lot of poles and it requires a lot of work to get our customers restored,” said Dedoes.

Right now Consumers Energy has about 270 line crews out working. They're in storm mode they're working 24/7 in 16 hour shifts to restore power.

Out supporting those crews are "storm rooms,” which is an energy mobile that is with back-up supplies and anything a crew might need that doesn’t fit on their truck.

"We have the transformers and the cross arms to restore customer's service."

“Customers have been very patient. We appreciate all that patience, I think it helps that they see all the damage that our crews are dealing.”

All the turned up trees and hanging wires are hard to miss along the streets of Jackson County.

Consumers assures they’re working around the clock to get you and your family out of the dark.

Dedoes says they work to restore the largest amount of people at one time. So for those viewers monitoring the outage map, chances are that if your home is included in a larger outage, you're likely to have a quicker restoration time.
