Hot Dog! The Favorite Fourth Of July Food

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - This coming holiday is a chance for people to have cookouts as part of their celebrations.

And at those cookouts they will, more than likely, have hot dogs.

According to the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council more than 155 million hot dogs will be eaten on the holiday.

If you're feeling especially hungry you can try to match the hot dog eating record set last year by Joey Chestnut at the annual Nathan's Famous hot dog eating contest in Coney Island, New York.

Chestnut set the record by eating 69 hot dogs in ten minutes.

He'll defend his title in Friday's event.

Beef is also big on July 4th but is the runner-up choice.  Memorial Day is the holiday when beef is preferred by Americans.
