Prison Under Quarantine After 150 Get Sick

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - The Parnall Correctional Facility has been placed under medical quarantine after flu-like symptoms spread quickly from 30 prisoners Sunday to about 150 prisoners today.

Prisoners are experiencing flu-like symptoms and Russ Marlan, Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman, says there does not appear to be a connection between the illnesses and the discovery of maggots found near the food line at Parnall.

Health care staff members are using bacteria cultures on prisoners, and cleaning housing units and most other parts of the facility with bleach substances to prevent further spread of disease.
