Two Charged With Spartan Stadium Bomb Threat

Posted: Updated:

Two people face felony charges after police say they made a bomb threat at Michigan State University.

Anthony Robert Shearer and Cynthia Marie Spade each face a one county of a false report of a bomb threat.

The threat at Spartan Stadium on Wednesday afternoon prompted police to evacuate some 200 people from the stadium and surrounding areas.

They cleared the area a couple of hours later without finding a bomb.

Police tracked down and questioned two people of interest quickly after the threat and announced the arrest of two suspects within three hours.

A judge set Shearer's bond at $75,000 and Spade's at $50,000. Both are from Lansing and police say they don't have a connection to the university.

Police say Shearer, 31, also faces charges of driving with a suspended license and being a habitual offender because he already has three previous felony convictions.

They were arraigned in East Lansing’s 54-B District Court before Judge Richard D. Ball. Both suspects are from Lansing and have no university affiliation.

Spade and Shearer are being held at the Ingham County Jail. They have court dates set for next week.
