2nd Blue Water SandFest Gets Going In Port Huron

Posted: Updated:
PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - A sand-sculpting festival has returned to Port Huron.

Blue Water SandFest runs through Sunday at Fort Gratiot Light Station County Park.

The main event starts Friday with a dozen sand artists creating their own sculptures.

Mid Michigan Materials of Jeddo donated 300 tons of sand for the event, which is in its second year.

Money raised from the festival goes to restoring the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse grounds and buildings. Last year, the event raised $36,000 and drew 8,400 attendees.

David Brooks, chairman of both Blue Water SandFest and Friends of the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse says
he expects attendance to be up this year.

Admission is $5.
