Skubick: Will Mitt Romney Run For President Again?

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, MI (WLNS) - In the world of politics today, even though he says he's not interested speculation continues to mount that Mitt Romney may run for president again.

But some political insiders in Michigan aren't so sure that's a good idea. 6 News Capitol Correspondent Tim Skubick tells us about the current debate on Romney for president.

January 18, 2014, former republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says, "I’m not running again." February 15: "I had my turn."

April 28, CBS Political Correspondent Bob Schiefer enters the debate. He has a source that says if former Florida Governor Jeb Nush and brother of former president George W. Bush, does not get in, "Romney may actually try it again."

But just last week Romney said no again. So why all this Romney chatter?

“People are frustrated with Obama. You hear more and more people saying I wish I had voted for Romney,” said David Doyle, former republican state chair.

Reporter: “Buyers remorse?”
Doyle: “No question about it.

In fact a recent poll reveals 45 percent of the voters believe the country would be better off with Mitt Romney in the white house, 38 percent disagree.

Some speculate that with candidates such as Rand Paul and Chris Christie, a potential Romney candidacy looks pretty good.

I think we need to keep looking.

Republican consultant Tom Shields reflects that even though Mr. Romney lost by 4 points, he lost by 190 electoral college votes and it’s difficult to put the momentum back together again especially after Mr. Romney called himself a loser.

“It’s tough to get that momentum going again once you've been through that cycle, all your volunteers, all that money you raised, it’s tough to gear that back up again for a second run,” said Shields.

Reporter: “And he called himself a loser.”
Shields: “That's not a good thing to happen to him.”

Mr. Shields on the other hand does think Jeb Bush is “seriously looking at it" and would not be surprised if he got in rather than Mr. Romney.
