Decimal Point Error Means Financial Aid Applicants Could Receive Money

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - If you're a college student that applied for federal aid and did not get the help for college as you were expecting this year, some money might still be on the way.

It all started when a one decimal point error made 165,000 low income students look like millionaires on their federal aid applications this year.

That means they would not qualify for some federal student aid. A change on the free application for federal student aid in January let students enter an extra decimal point that the system ignored.
