Michigan Park To Become Mud Pit For Annual Event

Posted: Updated:

WESTLAND, Mich. (AP) - A Detroit-area park is about to be transformed into a giant mud pit for the amusement of hundreds of children.

Kids 12 and under are getting the chance to run, jump or wade into the 75-by-150-foot pit at the park in Westland for two hours today.

Events at the 26th Mud Day event include "Mud Limbo" and wheelbarrow races. And the 2014 King and Queen of Mud are to be crowned.

Children are encouraged to wear old clothes and shoes and bring a change of clothes. There are no showers on-site, but a cleanup area is available with hoses for rinsing off the muddy kids.

Parents are advised to bring a supply of towels, and plastic bags are being provided to ensure dirty clothes are contained for the trip home.
