Weather Service: Tornado Hit Ionia County Sunday

(WLNS) - The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids is now confirming that a tornado struck Ionia County Sunday night.

According to the NWS the tornado produced EF0 level damage with winds approximately 75 miles per hour.

6 News meteorologist Jim Geyer adds the tornado hit along Reeder Road just north of I-96 and west of Keefer Highway.

There are no reports of injuries.


One roof was partially torn off and five farm buildings were also damaged.

There was also some tree and crop damage reported in Sunday's tornado.

A severe thunderstorm late Sunday spawned another tornado with winds reaching the 100-110 mph range in Kent County, causing significant damage to homes in western Michigan, and damage was reported elsewhere.
