Plan Approved To Expand Livingston County Jail

Posted: Updated:
LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MI (WLNS) - Officials in Livingston County have approved plans to issue up to $15 million bonds to pay for a jail expansion.

It's all part of an effort to deal with over-crowding at the facility. Officials say the current facility is out of compliance and poses potential liability issues.

They tell us that on a typical day the jail houses 60 women, even though it has beds for 31.

The expanded jail is proposed to have beds for at least 80 women. Overall the expansion will increase the capacity from 254 beds to 411.
