Potter Park Zoo Needs Help Naming New Animal

Posted: Updated:
LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Potter Park Zoo is celebrating the birth of an Eastern bongo, but she doesn’t have a name yet.

The birth of the bongo is significant because “this species may have as few as 100 animals left in the wild,” Dr. Tara Harrison, veterinarian at Potter Park Zoo said.”

She was born on June 18, 2014 and is now among five bongos at Potter Park Zoo, including Binti, Bella, Bock and her mother Phoebe.

Potter Park Zoo has not named the new bongo yet and they have come up with a creative way to vote on an identity for the little one.

For the next two weeks the zoo is running a donation challenge in their gift shop. There are three tubs and the tub with the most money at the end of the two weeks will decide whether the bongo is named Penelope, Alika or Bahati.
