Two High-Profile Trials Back In Court Today

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - The murder trial of a Jackson man is expected to start this morning.

That's according to our media partners at the Jackson Citizen Patriot.

22-year old Marlon Thomas is charged with "open murder" in the shooting death of Rakiesh Brown.

it happened in June of last year outside of a home on the 100 block of West Mansion Street.

"Open Murder" allows a judge or jury to decide what charges,  if any, are appropriate. The trial is scheduled to begin at 10-30.

In another trial, this one in Detroit, jury selection will begin today in the trial of Theodore Wafer, the Detroit-area man who's charged with second degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Renisha McBride in November of last year.

Officials say McBride was pounding on his door hours after being involved in a car crash while drunk. That's when police say he shot her in the head.

His lawyers say it was out of self defense.
