Candidate Profile: Paul Mitchell In 4th Congressional

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - We are getting you ready for the August 5th primary all week by profiling the candidates running in the 4th Congressional district.

Today meet a man who has spent over three decades helping others find jobs. Now he's the one hoping to land a new job as a United States Congressman.

Here's Republican Paul Mitchell. You could safely say Paul Mitchell means business. "I'm not a career politician. I'm a businessman that thinks we need to take a business perspective to Washington in order to fix some of the problems that are there."

Mitchell brings 35 years experience in workforce development to the 4th district Congressional race. He's concerned government is getting too big and he says that's bad for business. "We need to reduce the Federal government; the size and scope. Then we can actually afford to pay for it. Right now the government is strangling jobs by regulating everything that moves."

And Mitchell is not standing pat in this campaign. The political newcomer is working hard to get the upper hand in this primary. His campaign airing a steady barrage of TV ads to maximize exposure.

Still, the Saginaw area native hopes his homegrown values and straight forward message will resonate with voters. "I come from the background of pretty humble beginnings. I come from a background of six brothers and sisters. My dad worked full time, often two jobs. I understand what it is to work. I understand people working hard to try to grab the American dream. Andgovernmentt needs to offer opportunity, not get in the way."

And if elected Mitchell believes his common sense will help him establish common ground with others on Capitol Hill to get results.

"There are many, many people, a growing group of people in Washington that want to focus on solutions. I'm happy to work with them to make things better and get government out of the way of private business and citizens."

Paul Mitchell is running in the 4th Congressional District, one of three candidates looking to fill the seat vacated by outgoing Congressman Dave Camp.
