Swarms Of Bees Hinder Rescue Attempt After Crash

Posted: Updated:

ST. CHARLES, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say swarms of bees that emerged from a vacant Michigan home following a car crash prevented people from trying to save the motorist.

A 54-year-old man who may have had a medical emergency was pronounced dead at the scene after crashing Wednesday afternoon into the bee-infested home in St. Charles.

Saginaw County sheriff's Lt. Randy Pfau says investigators were told that the house hadn't been occupied for many years. People nearby tried to help the driver, but Pfau says swarms of bees pushed them back.

Pfau says those attempting to help the man attached a tow strap to the car and pulled it away from the home as rescue crews responded.

The man's name wasn't immediately released.
