Plastic Surgery Billboard Removed After Vandalism

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - A billboard featuring some baked goods cooked up controversy in Jackson this week.

Our Mariah Harrison explains why a plastic surgery office says their message was taken all wrong.

How could two cute little muffins wearing blue jeans stir up so much controversy? The surgeon at Ann Arbor plastic surgery says it wasn't supposed to.

"We wanted something that kind of represented the lighter side of surgery,” said Dr. Pramit Maholtra, Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery.

The person that did the vandalism last weekend certainly didn't see it that way.

"We sort of think of a muffin top like love handles something that everybody has everybody hates.”

It attracted mixed reactions.

"They thought it was you know, cutesy and innovative, and I think it really didn’t attract national attention until it was vandalized.”

Crews removed the ad on Wednesday, just a couple of days after the reported vandalism. Ann Arbor plastic surgery had another billboard up in town that too has since been taken down.

“Our intention was certainly not to offend anybody some people felt that it was shaming fat people and so we were upset by that."

The billboard sat right outside of Jenna Salenbiens work place.

"I thought it was a funny play on words but I didn't take it personally or as an offensive billboard,” said Jenna Salenbien, Manager, Classic Cabinets & Interiors.

Jenna says she understands how someone could misinterpret the message.

"It's a play on the muffin top, you know the cute little muffin with the pants, I think it was just trying to be creative."

Doctor Maholtra has a special message for the graffiti artist.

“People need to know that's breaking the law and that's someone else’s property and that's never really the answer."

As of Friday Ann Arbor plastic surgery is not sure whether they will press charges against the vandal.
