Deputy Stops Super-Drunk Canadian Trucker On I-94

PAW PAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities in southwestern Michigan say they stopped a Canadian truck driver who was weaving across lanes of Interstate 94 and found he had 4 ½ times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

The Van Buren County sheriff's department says it got a call Saturday night to watch for an eastbound tractor-trailer that was weaving "all over the road." It says in a statement that a deputy stopped the truck in Paw Paw Township, 15 miles west of Kalamazoo.

The department says the 28-year-old Brampton, Ontario, driver had opened alcohol containers with him and tested far above the legal limit for alcohol.

Michigan law sets a 0.04 percent blood alcohol limit for commercial truckers and 0.08 percent for other drivers.

The trucker was jailed pending a court appearance.
