Robin Williams Dies At 63

(WLNS) - Comedian/actor Robin Williams has died at the age of 63, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Department.

Robin McLaurin Williams was pronounced dead at 12:02 p.m. Monday in Tiburon, California. The investigation lead the Marin County Sheriff's Office Coroner Division to suspect the death as a suicide due to asphyxia. Robin Williams' wife, Susan Schneider released a statement, "This morning, I lost my husband any my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions." (via @NewsBreaker on Twitter)

Williams was born on July 12, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois. He studied political science before deciding to study theater at Juilliard School. Williams was well-known for his role as English teacher John Keating in Dead Poet's Society (1989). He voiced the Genie role in Walt Disney's Aladdin (1992), played Alan Parrish (the man trapped in Jumanji for 26 years) in Jumanji (1995), took on the role of Professor Philip Brainard in Flubber (1997)  and he portrayed Daniel Hillard and Mrs. Doubtfire in Mrs. Doubtfire (1993). Williams was also known for his role as the alien Mork in the TV series Mork & Mindy (1978-1982), the spin-off series of Happy Days (1974-1978), which he was first discovered for.

He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor three times and received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Good Will Hunting (1997). Williams also received four Golden Globes, two Emmy Awards, five Grammy Awards and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Robin Williams had ties to Michigan. His father, Robert Fitzgerald Williams was a senior executive at Ford Motor Company in charge of the Midwest region.

Williams grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He was a student at
Detroit Country Day School.
