State Board Of Education Faces Full Meeting Slate

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Education is on the mind of Michigan today. The State Board of Education is holding its monthly meeting but there are concerns surrounding charter schools.

Representatives from charter schools across the state are gathering at the Capital in advance of today's meeting.

Among their items for discussion is the recent notice of possible suspension for Ferris State to authorize more charter schools. State superintendent Mike Flanagan says the schools need to be more transparent and accountable.

Two mid michigan charter schools are on that list, Connections Academy in Okemos and Windemere Park Charter Academy in Lansing Township.

During the actual meeting the board will talk about early education, as well as a performance score report for teachers for the upcoming school year.

The group will also go through a number of grants going to schools across Michigan.

These meetings are open to the public it begins at 9:30 a.m. at the John Hannah Building on West Allegan Street.
