Prep Football Two-A-Days: Jackson and Stockbridge

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - 20 high school football practices in 10 days...that's what we're doing here at 6 Sports...visits number 15 and 16 tonight on day 8 of our 2 week journey...

We start at Jackson High School....where the Vikings are rebuilding and hope Phase 2 of that process gives them a winning record this season.

The Vikings started poorly last year --- losing their first 6 games.....but came on strong to win 2 of their last 3 games and 2nd year coach Scott Farley is trying to build off the late season improvement....

Farley is a terrific leader....and after several seasons at Leslie he made the move down to road to Jackson High last season so what are the goals for year two?

Coach Farley says, "We're gonna focus on the's a very Nick Saban coach cliché but ya know we're not gonna look at wins and losses....we're gonna look at you know, how did we progress in terms of where we were from the beginnin of the season to the end of the season and I think if we do that -- you know a lot of those wins and losses and playoffs and those kinds of things will fall into place for us. We're miles ahead of where we were a year ago just in terms of understanding the expectations and understanding what we do from an x's and o's standpoint so there's no comparison this year to last year."

6 Sports "Two-A-Days" move on.....20 teams in 10 days......we move now from #15 to #16 on our double sessions journey.

To Stockbridge -- where the search for excellence starts in the weight room for the Panthers--who finished 4-and-5 last year and haven't had a winning season in 4 years.

And the big buzz around here is the new league the Panthers are in this season---moving from the powerful CAAC White to the newly formed 6-team Greater Lansing Athletic Conference.....along with the likes of Perry....Olivet...Leslie...Maple Valley and Lakewood. Talk about a new lease on life:

"The gauntlet of Williamston, Lansing Catholic and Portland is really tough in the CAAC White and um, they're just great programs and we have a good program here but you know most of those schools are fielding 3 levels of teams---jayvee....uh, we haven't had a jayvee team here since a freshman team--since 1996 so when they're able to field those 3 levels they'll do some different things but um, yeah it'll be a new lease for everybody....not just football but for all athletics here."

Thursday is scrimmage day for local high school teams...we'll be at a few of those and have 2 more 6 Sports "Two -A-Days"....with visits to Ithaca and Laingsburg...
