Camping Season Winds Down

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - "We still got one third left, September and October."

James and Rebecca Brannon have spent the summer traveling to local and state campgrounds.

"We went everywhere, Indiana a few places in Michigan. We do all the state parks, we love the state campgrounds and this is one of the nicer ones I've been to."

James says it's a chance for them to enjoy the outdoors, their privacy and a place for their dog Angel to swim. "Couldn't ask for better, not too hot, not too cold, a little bit of rain."

The weather might not be much to look at but's been great to camp in. "After the kids got out of school, it was pretty much full every weekend."

Plus we caught up with a DeWitt couple that says these cooler temps over the last few months are actually keep them in their campers and out here in the weather longer because they're not camped out because of a hot summer season. "I like it to be cooler so we can enjoy the fire a little more."

Sandra Billlngsley and her husband say yes, they're packing up now. "Take it home and un-pack it all and put it all away."

But will be back this season. "I think there's a lot of camping left this fall."

Rain or shine these campers say they can't to see what fall adventure is waiting for them down the road.

Sleepy Hollow State Park expects the number of campers to go down after this long weekend but park officials are pleased because they say they had just as many campers this year as they did last summer.
