Tornadic Storms Hit Mid Michigan - August 24th, 2007

A round of severe thunderstorms hit Mid Michigan with the strongest tornadoes seen in the state in 10 years. Hardest hit was the Potterville area where an EF 3 tornado produced winds close to 140 mph. The National Weather Service says the tornado touched down 4 miles northwest of Charlotte and then moved to the east northeast at 30-40 mph. At one point the tornado was 200-300 yards wide and damaged or destroyed at least 15 homes. Here is a collection of pictures sent to us by our viewers. Another weaker tornado with an EF 1 rating touched down in south Lansing. Yet another tornado touched down in northeast Livingston County with a tornado rating of EF 2. As always, anytime you see weather happen you can send us digital pictures to weather@wlns.com .
