Locals react to Trump’s leaked conversation

Campaign 2016

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – With Trump’s statements being blasted nationwide, we took the streets to get reaction from politicians and voters here locally.

Utter disbelief…this is the common factor many people across the capitol city felt today after hearing Donald Trump’s leaked conversation showing the republican nominee using vulgar language towards women.

“I did try to f*** her and she was married,” Trump said in one of the leaked recordings.

“I don’t want somebody like this representing who and what my America is going to be,” said Savannah Segueda who is undecided on her vote.

“I was appalled, there’s…it’s hard to put into words how I felt,” Democrat Jill Maxwell stated.

To Maxwell, Trumps statements really struck a nerve and brought back vivid flashbacks to when she was criticized on her appearance.

“It was disgusting…all that flood of memories of how you feel when you’re degraded because of the way you look,” Maxwell said.

And for Segueda, who was on the fence between Hillary Clinton and Trump, well, this sent her over the edge.

“His comments were very…just put woman down and I , that’s not somebody I want for my president,” she stated.

Donald trump’s crude language has even caused fellow republicans to speak out.

Michigan GOP Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel released a statement saying:

“As a woman, as the mother of a 13-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son, and as a Republican, I find Mr. Trump’s comments reprehensible and disgusting. Mr. Trump has apologized for the comments he made 11 years ago, but needs to do so again and again if he hopes to gain back any semblance of public trust.

I am confident that Michiganders know that Donald Trump’s comments represent only himself, and other Republicans do not share his views. Donald Trump’s comments are his alone to own and I cannot and will not defend them.”

U.S. Congressman Mike Bishop even released a statement saying:

“No person should ever talk about women the way Trump talked in that conversation.  I am disgusted by it. Senator John McCain said it best when he said, ‘He alone bears the burden of his conduct and alone should suffer the consequences.”

With the debate on Sunday night and the polls coming up, we’ll see how Donald Trump handles the heat.
