Michael Perdue was a devoted father to his nine children, a loving husband to his high school sweetheart for 25 years; and known to his coworkers as the man who posted daily inspirational quotes.
No one would have predicted that in January, Michael would decide to take his own life.
He worked as a corrections officer for 24 years. His family began seeing signs of depression a year and a half ago.
His wife, LaTonia Perdue, encouraged Michael to go to counseling, but says he refused.
Michael is one of four corrections officers who have committed suicide from the Robert G. Cotton Correctional Facility in two years.
A recent study shows that correctional officers are more prone to PTSD, depression, and suicidal thoughts.
Michael was 45-years-old.
