50 residents evacuated in Portland due to flooding

PORTLAND, Mich. (WLNS) – City officials report they had to evacuate 50 residents and take them to a local shelter after the Grand River began to flood over its banks toward residential areas, caused by an ice jam.

The owner of the Blue Mason Jar shop tells 6 News that they haven’t experienced flooding in 30 years.  The water in that shop is about 4 inches deep and is being pumped out of the basement.

6 News is told emergency officials are currently monitoring the situation.
