LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Michigan State Police say they are boosting traffic safety enforcement this week in effort to reduce crashes and deaths on the roadways.
The efforts are part of Operation Safe Driver Week, which runs through Saturday.
Operation Safe Drivers Week aims to keep drivers focused on the roads and encourage safe driving habits.
Authorities say there has been a 20% decrease in fatal crashes from last year involving commercial motor vehicles.
Experts say many crashes are caused by errors made by both truck and bus drivers, as well as passenger-vehicle motorists driving unsafely around them.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 10% of fatal accidents are caused by distracted drivers.
