UPDATE: Authorities report prisoner escape from the Ingham County Jail

Breaking News

INGHAM COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS) – Authorities are alerting the public of a prisoner escape from the Ingham County Jail around 5:30 a.m. on Cedar Street in Mason.

Officials say the escaped prisoner is Michael David McKerchie, a 32-year old male.

To escape, McKerchie dismantled his bed and used it to make it look like he was sleeping there. He then meticulously took apart a window and the iron frame.

McKerchie was seen on jail surveilance video running from the jail at 11:23 p.m.

At 5:45 a.m. someone reported to law enforcement a stolen pick-up truck near the jail. The house had a surveillance system and officials said the video appears to show McKerchie.

Officials believe McKerchie is still driving the stolen pick-up, which is a 2-door 2013 Chevrolet Silverado that is a blue-green color and the license plate is DRW-9448. The pick-up also has a unique Deer-Fish hook decal on the window behind the driver’s side and a cover on the truck-bed.

The detectives think McKerchie is heading to either Battle Creek, Otesgo, or Indiana.
