Cities are changing the rules when it comes to shoveling.
Many municipalities gave residents about a day to clean up their sidewalks once the snow stopped.
But officials don’t want people outside for extended periods of time because of the sub-zero temperatures and wind chills.
Mid-Michigan’s high on Wednesday was below zero. Thursday’s high will be in the single digits and wind chills will remain below zero.
So some local governments are changing the rules:
- Lansing: Won’t enforce shoveling rules until wind chills are above zero
- East Lansing: Suspending snow removal requirements until Friday, February 1st at 8pm
- Meridian Township: Lifting snow removal ordinance rules until Saturday, February 2nd at 12pm
- Jackson: Won’t enforce ordinance until temperatures climb above zero and it’s safe to be outside
