LANSING, Mich.( WLNS) – It’s a historic landscape on Michigan Avenue in downtown Lansing and now after 37 years of serving hundreds of thousands of people from all across Mid-Michigan Clara’s Lansing Station is closing its doors.

Just minutes away from the Michigan State Capitol, customers across Mid-Michigan are having ‘their last supper’ at Clara’s Lansing Station before the iconic restaurant closes its doors for good.

“It’s sad. You hate to see something like this come to an end,” said customer Carolyne Beak.

“I think Clara’s has been a tradition in Lansing for many years and um like my wife said it’s sad that era coming to an end,” said customer Bill Beak.

And it wasn’t just customers who stopped by celebrate the good food and good company.

Larry Lindemann who helped design and build the restaurants historic features came to visit too.

“It’s quite unique I don’t know of another one like this or any place,” said Clara’s designer Larry Lindemann.

The Jubeck family has been running Clara’s for decades.

The late Peter Jubeck bought the former Union Depot on Michigan Avenue back in 1978 and transformed it into the family-friendly business.

Peter’s wife Linda and their two children Scott and Cindy are now the current owners.

They say costly upkeep and renovations are the big reason behind the closing.

“The hill is too steep to climb right now for us and we feel it’s just best to turn it over to somebody else at this point,” said owner Scott Jubeck.

And while the owners all agree the restaurant closing is bittersweet.

The Jubeck family is excited to see their legacy live on in the property’s next venture.

“This is a gem that’s not anywhere in the area and so our dream and our wish to the new owners is that they embrace it and take it to the next level and keep my dad’s dream alive,” said owner Cindy Jubeck.
