DETROIT, Mich. (WLNS) – It was a packed house at the Democratic Convention in Detroit on Sunday, in fact nearly 6,000 people were there to select the Democratic candidates for the upcoming November election.

“I want to congratulate Dana Nessel on her victory,” said Pat Miles; Attorney General Runner-up.

The crowd went wild as Miles announced that his opponent, Dana Nessel would be the Democratic Party’s nominee in the race for Michigan’s next Attorney General.

And for Nessel, that moment was overwhelming.

“Are you supposed to cry during this because I kind of feel a little bit like crying right now,” Nessel stated.

Nessel says if she’s elected in November, Michiganders will see quite a change in our state.

“I want it to be an office that doesn’t just represent special interests or corporate interests or bad government actors, I want it to truly be an office of the people,” said Nessel.

Nessel isn’t the only candidate that was in the spotlight…Jocelyn Benson was selected as the Democratic Party’s nominee for Secretary of State.

Benson: “Do you believe that we need leaders in Lansing who will put people first?”

Crowd: “Yes!”

Benson: “Who will be transparent, accountable and who will work for us?”

Crowd: “Yes!”

That’s not all, democrats also endorsed two new nominees for Michigan’s Supreme Court…Megan Cavanagh and Sam Bagenstos.

“Justice should be for everyone, not just for the wealthy, not just for corporations and not just for certain people who live in certain zip codes,” said Cavanagh.

“People around the state want change, you need to change the Michigan Supreme Court and we can do it this year,” Bagenstos stated.

The Republican Party will go through this same process in just a couple months.

The 2018 Michigan Republican Party State Convention will be on August 25th at the Lansing Center.
