LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – It’s Mother’s Day today and Potter Park Zoo is celebrating by giving moms a free ticket into the zoo.
Lots of people took advantage of the special offer, which also included train and pony rides for the entire family to enjoy.
Moms across the country are being celebrated on this Mother’s Day and Lansing is no exception, with special events happening all around town to honor our mothers.
At Potter Park Zoo, free admission for mothers brought dozens of families together for some sight-seeing, including Angela Nicoloff and her family, who drove a little over an hour to take advantage of the event.
On this Mother’s Day, Nicoloff says watching her kids grow up is one of the best parts of being a mom.
“It’s fantastic. I have two wonderful children, a little boy and a little girl,” said Nicoloff.
Before being celebrated in the capital city, Nicoloff was showered with love from both her husband and children, who she says gave her home-made Mother’s Day cards.
“I shed a couple tears because I love them so much and it’s just been so great,” said Nicoloff.
She says being a mom makes life worthwhile.
“They’re just the best thing ever and they make me really happy,” said Nicoloff.
Brandi Stupica also got a special gift from her son.
“I got my card and my son spelled mom on it and he had drawn a picture of me and it was really sweet. I felt very loved,” said Stupica.
She says her favorite part about being a mom changes daily.
“It’s not the same gig every day, my kids make it different. They grow up,” said Stupica.
Shauna Schaefer says the love she feels on Mother’s Day serves as a reminder of how special her family is.
“We don’t get that every day, it’s kind of a think-less job to be a mom, but it’s nice to have one day dedicated,” said Schaefer.
Schaefer says there’s no other job like it.
“It’s super fun and exhausting but it’s so worth it,” said Schaefer.
