Former head of Michigan DEQ water quality unit fired

LANSING, MI (WLNS) – The former head of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality water quality unit was fired Friday.

After a meeting Friday, the employee was dismissed.

Governor Rick Snyder said, “putting the well-being of Michiganders first needs to be the top priority for all state employees.”

“Anything less than that is unacceptable. The DEQ is working to change this culture and ensure mistakes that endanger our residents don’t occur again.”

A second employee was suspended in January. Currently a review of that employee is underway.
