Frounfelker makes court appearance; Future with Jackson city council still unknown


Jackson city councilman Andrew Frounfelker was in court on Friday for a probable cause hearing. He is accused of attacking his girlfriend and was formally charged with assault on May 23. Frounfelker denies the accusations and pleaded not guilty.

Frounfelker has represented the city’s 5th ward for the past 13 years. Despite that long history in local politics, members of the community turned out in force at this week’s city council meeting, calling for him to be removed from office. Frounfelker was a no-show.

Members of the Jackson city council had different opinions on how to handle the scandal. Some want to wait for him to have his day in court. Others called for his resignation, impeachment, or proposed launching their own investigation.

Frounfelker he will be back in court next week for a preliminary exam, where the future of the charges against him will be decided.
