General Motors shows appreciation for first responders

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – When an emergency strikes its first responders who are there helping you in times of need, but the help doesn’t stop there.

DISPATCHER: “Mam, you have to listen to me. Is he breathing?

CALLER: Yes, but his eyes keep rolling back and then he stops breathing.

911 dispatchers are often times a person’s lifeline.

“Dispatch is part of public safety and even though we may not be on the scene physically, we’re on the scene through that phone,” said Michael Armitage; Eaton County 911 Director.

And to show appreciation for those in public service, General Motors has a little something up their sleeve for all emergency personnel.

“Any first responder so a firefighter, police officer, EMT worker and actually even a 911 dispatch worker can now take advantage of supplier pricing through GM to get a new vehicle,” said Elliott Jackson; Product Specialist at Feldman Chevrolet of Lansing.

It’s called the “First Responder Vehicle Discount Program” and Jackson says the program is a way to give back to first responders who give us so much.

“It’s about patriotism and one of the big things just coming off Memorial Day weekend is making sure that we honor those who serve us and take care of us,” Jackson stated.

Armitage says he’s humbled that 911 dispatchers are being recognized as well.

“I think it’s a great reward for all the dispatchers and first responders that work so hard for public service. We really appreciate the thank you, the recognition and the recognition that 911 is really a key part of the first responders and the whole public safety community,” said Armitage.

GM says the program will last throughout the month of June.
