Gov. Gretchen Whitmer graduated from Michigan State University, but she is also considering herself a Wolverine after receiving an honorary degree from the University of Michigan Saturday.
Whitmer gave the university’s spring commencement address and spoke to the graduates about embracing fairness and finding value in one another.
She said you don’t improve the world by fighting each other, but by choosing to, “fight injustice, intolerance and indifference.”
“All of you are poised to shape the future of this nation, and the world,” Whitmer said. “You are now in the driver’s seat. The question is, where do you wanna go?”
Whitmer is the sixth sitting Governor to deliver a U of M commencement address in the past 40 years.
