LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – The 56th Circuit Court of Eaton County has a new judge today.

Governor Rick Snyder today appointed John Maurer to fill the bench that has been vacant ever since Judge Jeffrey Sauter resigned last month.

“John brings extensive knowledge and valuable experience to the bench, and I am confident he will successfully serve the people of Eaton County,” Snyder said.

Maurer has a background as an assistant prosecuting attorney Clinton County after twenty years in the Grand Ledge law firm of Deming & Maurer.

He is a graduate of Michigan State University and Cooley Law School.

Maurer must seek election in November 2018 to fill the balance of Judge Sauter’s term. He must seek election again in November 2020 for a new six-year term.

Sauter resigned last month after more than three years as an Eaton County judge.
