Guilty verdict for man who streamed murder on Facebook Live

News

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) – A high profile homicide case, which involved a woman getting murdered on Facebook Live, has wrapped up with a verdict from the jury.

20-year-old Anthony Gelia was charged with open murder in the 2016 shooting death of Brittany Southwell, who was shot and killed while holding her baby boy.

Monday afternoon, Gelia was found guilty of felony murder.

The jury also found him guilty of home invasion and felony firearm.

It took the jury just three and a half hours to find Gelia guilty of all those crimes.

However, they also found him not guilty of first degree pre-meditated murder.

There were tears of relief after the verdict was read for Southwell’s family, who sat through this long trial.

The 26-year-old mother of three young kids was shot and killed by Gelia when he fired into a house on Jefferson Street in Nov. 2016.

He went to the house because of a previous Facebook fight with his brother, and Southwell was just an innocent bystander.

Gelia streamed the murder on Facebook Live, which resulted in a shocking video that was shown to the jury.

Gelia admits to shooting up the house but says he never meant to kill anyone.

His sentencing takes place May 9.

We’ll let you know what happens.
