HOLT, Mich. (WLNS) – Although Memorial Day is a day filled with barbecuing and spending time with family and friends, it’s also a day to remember our fallen heroes and that is exactly what the community of Holt did today.
It’s a day to pay tribute to our fallen heroes.
“If it wasn’t for these men that gave their lives, and the ones not only that didn’t give their lives but came back…honor them, celebrate them, tell them thank you,” Former Holt resident Ron Carrick said.
And that’s just what the people of Holt did this afternoon.
“This garden that we’re sitting in is just an amazing memory to all those who sacrificed so that we can have these freedoms,” Michigan Senator Curtis Hertel Jr. mentioned.
“These men and women have given their lives so that we can have the freedom to do exactly what we’re doing and if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t be doing this,” Commander of Buck Reasoner Post 238 Rick Merrigan said.
Eternally grateful…and some nostalgic…
“It’s very important to me…I served during the Vietnam War era and we didn’t get very much recognition when we came back,” Merrigan stated.
All were very humble of the recognition to our soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
“The plaque behind me says all gave some and some gave all and…that’s embedded in my heart,” Carrick said.
